By Hye Etch

Introduction

he “Arts” are the fingerprints of a nation, left behind throughout the ages for others to examine, admire and learn. It’s a window through which the sole of a nation is portrayed. It’s a reflection of its culture during triumph, defeat, joy and sorrow.

The Arts of Armenia have been dated back centuries before Christ. It has survived religious and political turbulence, unrest and persecution throughout the existence of this proud and culturally advanced nation.

This chapter introduces the reader to Armenia’s artistic and cultural riches, her exquisite architecture and delicately carved Khachkars (sculpture), her precious metalwork in gold, silver and bronze, her fine lace needlework and highly appraised carpets, her music and dance and much more.
